This qualification reflects the roles of aviation management personnel performing ground operations duties in support of commercial or Defence aviation flight operations.

Aviation management duties include applying technical and non-technical aviation skills and knowledge in support of a wide range of aerodrome and air transport operations, including passenger, charter, cargo, emergency service and government operations.

Course Details

Introduction

Flight One Academy, as part of the Tisdall Aviation Group, provides a uniquely industry-focused Diploma of Aviation Management. The course is designed to cater to beginners with no aviation experience but has the flexibility to offer a more informative, contextualised training experience for existing aviation personnel.

This qualification reflects the roles of aviation management personnel performing ground operations duties in support of commercial or Defence aviation flight operations.

Aviation management duties include applying technical and non-technical aviation skills and knowledge in support of a wide range of aerodrome and air transport operations, including passenger, charter, cargo, emergency service and government operations.

Individuals working at this level will apply knowledge and skills to demonstrate autonomy, judgement and defined responsibility in known or changing contexts within broad but established parameters.

Licensing, legislative, regulatory and certification requirements that apply to this qualification can vary between states and territories. Compliance with these requirements may be required nationally and/or in various jurisdictions.

Use for Defence Aviation is to be in accordance with relevant Defence Orders, instructions, publications and regulations.

Typical Job Duties

An aviation manager can expect to undertake a wide range of tasks. These may include:

  • the selection and assignment of staff
  • ensuring equal employment opportunities in hiring and promotions
  • coordination of all activities of the aviation department such as work assignments
  • directing of aviation staff subordinates
  • evaluation and verification of employee performance through reviews of work assignments and other techniques
  • identification of staff development and training needs of aviation personnel
  • assurance that proper labor relations and conditions are followed
  • maintenance of records and reports relative to the aviation department
  • assurance that the aviation departments confer with federal, state and local government laws
  • provides advisory service to governing bodies if necessary
  • direction and participation of public information programs concerning aviation programs
  • reviewing of aircraft accident reports and addressing the problems related to them
  • determination of aviation safety and enforcement needs.
Delivery Mode

The course is open to students with no aviation industry experience and is delivered predominantly online supported by on campus or airfield learning activities where relevant. The study commitment for this course is approximately 2 days per week full time equivalent to complete the course within the standard 1 year timeframe.

Entry Requirements

ACADEMIC CRITERIA

  • Australian or Australian-equivalent senior high school certificate with average or above results.
  • Passes in school Maths and English
  • A strong interest in the aviation industry
  • Well organised and self disciplined

ENGLISH LANGUAGE CRITERIA

All applicants must hold a pass grade in Australian high school English.

Applicants from non-Australian backgrounds may be required to provide an IELTS Certificate (Academic Module) no more than 1 year old demonstrating a score of at least 6.0 overall with no band score below 5.5.

Please note: You may be exempt from the English language entry criteria if you studied for the last 2 years in Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, Canada or the United States of America enrolled in a formal qualification. Exemptions are assessed case by case. The Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) requires that individuals from non-English speaking backgrounds seeking an Australian Aircraft Maintenance Engineer Licence must present an IELTS score of 6.0 with no band score below 6.0 prior to being issued a licence.

English language packaged pathways are available for this course but a formal test result may still be required.

Training Arrangements

Our Archerfield Airport campus is equipped with practical training areas and integrated classrooms.

The practical workshop areas include professional aircraft engineering tools, a wide range of industry mechanical, electronic training aids and supplies as well as fully operational aircraft (Cessna 175) and Lycoming aircraft engine.

Our theory classrooms are air-conditioned and fully equipped to CASA and ASQA standards with student facilities and amenities available.

Assessment Arrangements

Assessments for this programme are conducted and invigilated in accordance with the requirements of the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA). Assessments may include, but are not limited to, workbooks, essays, assignments, short exams and group work under observation.
